SALT SkillWomen Shed

The SALT SkillWomen Shed is the perfect place to learn new skills or increase those you already have.

We provide ongoing classes for women in a range of activities and skills to improve your use of tools as well as general household & trade equipment maintenance. Membership of the SALT SkillWomen Shed includes a free 4 and ½ hour class in Basic Tool use, which teaches safe use of eleven basic tools. Information is also given on basic tools to buy which help you become independent with lots of support to enable you to become tool capable. Following the Basic Tool Course you have the option of different short courses in a variety of skills which will add to your skill level and which can be designed around your interests. There is also support and information on current job vacancies plus mentoring for women who wish to enter the trades.  Companies/business and individuals can be provided with support, connections and help to diversify their workforces.

Courses currently available after completion of the Basic Tool Course include:

  • Mitre cuts and learning to cut glass to create a framed memory box
  • Jigsaw and scroll saws to make fun seasonal decorations
  • Using colour in multiple ways
  • Patterns and colour for furniture
  • How to remove and replace locks and door or window furniture
  • Basic external painting
  • Car maintenance
  • Small furniture projects
